Add an Instagram feed to Squarespace
Put a live Instagram feed on any Squarespace page with a single Code block — free to start, nothing to install. The feed syncs automatically as you post, and images are proxied through Simpleembed so they never expire the way raw Instagram CDN links do.
1Get your Simpleembed feed ID
Create a free Simpleembed account and connect your Instagram account — it needs to be a Business or Creator account (switching a personal account is free and takes a minute in the Instagram app). Create a feed, then open Embed code in the dashboard and copy the snippet. It comes pre-filled with your feed ID:

In Squarespace, open the page and click Edit. Click an insert point (the plus icon) where you want the feed, then choose Codefrom the block menu — search for "code" if you don't see it right away.
Make sure you pick the Code block, not the Markdown block — Markdown blocks don't run scripts, so the feed won't load there. Note that JavaScript in Code blocks requires the Business plan or higher.
3Paste the snippet and save
Delete the placeholder content in the Code block's editor, paste the Simpleembed snippet with the mode set to HTML, and click Save. The editor may show the block as empty or as raw code — view the live page to see the feed rendered. It fills the width of the block and adjusts its own height automatically.
Customize it
Layout (grid or carousel), columns, spacing, captions, and hover effects are all controlled from the Simpleembed dashboard. Change a setting there and every embed updates automatically — you never need to touch the Code block again just to restyle the feed.
Frequently asked questions
- Which Squarespace plans support this?
- Code blocks are available on every Squarespace plan, but running JavaScript inside them — which the Simpleembed snippet needs — requires the Business plan or higher (Core, Plus, or Advanced under Squarespace's newer plan names).
- Can I use a Markdown block instead?
- No. Markdown blocks render text and basic HTML but do not execute scripts, so the feed will not load there. The Code block is the right one for the Simpleembed snippet.
- Will images break when Instagram links expire?
- No. Instagram's CDN links expire after a few days, which is why naive embeds show broken images. Simpleembed proxies and caches every image behind a stable URL, so your feed keeps rendering indefinitely.
- Does it slow my Squarespace site down?
- No. The loader script is tiny and loads with the async attribute, so it never blocks your page. The feed renders in its own iframe with lazy-loaded, CDN-cached images.
